by admin on February 9, 2010

Before you are able to remove the palmrest, the following parts needs to be removed:

  1. Remove the AC power.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Remove the media bay device.
  4. Remove the hard drive.
  5. Remove the keyboard.
  6. Remove the LC D Assembly.
  • Note: Some components such as the WLAN, WWAN, Memory on DIMM A does not need to be removed when replacing the palmrest. The coin cell battery need only be disconnected from the  motherboard.

1) Once the components above are removed you’ll be left with the base. The palmrest is on top.

2) Remove the nine securing screws from the bottom section of the system. When removing the screws for the LCD assembly, you can also remove the screws for the palmrest. The bottom screws are long screws except the 2 that are under the hard drive bay.

3) Remove the 3 long palmrest screws from the upper section of the system.

4) Lift the palmrest slowly up starting from the back.

5) Disconnect the cable connector attached to the system board when its accessible, then slide the palmrest towards you to unclip from the base plastic. Once the cable and palmrest have been removed then lift the palmrest up to remove it completely.

When installing the palmrest back do not forget the cable connector otherwise you’ll have no touchpad or bluetooth.
