Another major removal on the way. Remove the following parts first.
- Remove the AC power.
- Remove the battery.
- Remove the media bay device.
- Remove the hard drive.
- Remove the keyboard.
- Remove the LCD.
- Remove the Palmrest assembly.
Once the Palmrest has been taken off,
1) Loosen the four captive screws that secure the heatsink to the system board.
Note: Some Latitude D620 and D630 comes with either an Intel Graphics card and the others have a Nvidia graphics card. The one below is for an Intel graphics card. The heatsink on the units with an Nvidia looks a bit different.
2) Lift up the heat sink away from system. Be careful since the heatsink might be stuck on the CPU.
3) Lift the heat sink away to expose the processor underneath.
4) Turn the locking screw that secures the processor to the system board.
5) Lift the processor from the system.
Once the CPU is reseated, do not forget to lock the CPU lock and to put some thermal compound on the CPU before installing the heatsink. This is to help maximise the cooling of the CPU.
